About us

Hey, I'm Luis.

I started Prairie Row in 2016 with one push mower and a borrowed trailer while finishing my horticulture degree in Ames. Now we're three trucks and seven people.

We keep our routes tight, so your crew is in your neighborhood every week and actually remembers your yard: the soft spot by the downspout, the dog, the bed you don't want mulched.

Off season, we plow a few driveways and plan next year's beds with customers over coffee.

FAQ

Lawn and garden questions

Do I have to sign up for the whole season?

No. You pay per visit and can pause or cancel any time. Most people stay on all season because it's easier, not because they have to.

Do you bag the clippings?

We mulch them back into the lawn by default, which feeds the grass. If you prefer bagging, it's a small extra per visit.

What if it rains on my mow day?

We shift to the next dry day, usually within 24 hours, and text you when we're coming.

Do I need to be home?

No. Just leave gates unlocked and pets inside. We text when we're done.

When should I aerate?

Late August to mid-September is best for cool-season lawns here. The soil is warm and fall rain helps the new seed take.

Do you treat weeds or fertilize?

Not yet. We focus on mowing, cleanups and planting, and we're happy to recommend a licensed lawn treatment company.
