The price on the phone is the price.

Locked out, moved into a new place, or tired of a sticky deadbolt? One local locksmith, a fully stocked van and a real price before we leave the shop. No "$19 service call" that turns into $300.

What things cost

Every price below includes the trip to your door within our area. If something unusual turns up, we stop and tell you before doing anything extra.

Example pricing for this sample site. You get an all-in price range on the phone; the final bill won't be higher unless you approve extra work.

No-surprise pricing

Why we quote before we drive

Locksmith scams usually start the same way: a tiny "service call" price online, then a big bill once you're standing on your own porch. We think that's rotten, so we do the opposite.

Tell us the door, the lock and what happened. We'll give you an all-in range before we leave, and we'll show you ID and a marked van when we arrive.

About

Hi, I'm Sam.

I've been a locksmith for fifteen years, the first eight at a hardware store counter cutting keys and fixing whatever people brought in. In 2019 I put the shop in a van and started Plainprice.

Most of my work is boring in the best way: rekeys for new homeowners, landlords between tenants, and old Brattleboro doors that just need a little love.

I answer my own phone. If I can't get to you fast enough, I'll tell you, and I'll tell you what a fair price looks like so nobody takes advantage.

FAQ

Straight answers

How fast can you get here?

For a lockout in Brattleboro, usually 30 to 45 minutes. Outlying towns can take up to an hour. We'll give you an honest time on the phone, not a hopeful one.

What does a lockout cost, all in?

During business hours, $95 to $145 for a standard house door, including the trip. Evenings and weekends are $145 to $225. You get the range before we leave.

Rekey or replace?

If your lock works and you just want old keys to stop working, rekey it; it's cheaper. Replace it if it's worn out, loose or low quality, or if you want a smart lock.

Do you make car keys and fobs?

Yes, for most common makes, cut and programmed in your driveway. Some newer push-to-start keys need a dealer, and we'll tell you up front if yours does.

How do you verify I live here?

We'll ask for photo ID with the address, a lease, a utility bill or a quick call with your landlord. It slows things down by a minute and keeps strangers out of your home.

Will you damage my door?

Almost never. Most lockouts open with picking or bypass tools. Drilling is a last resort, and we'll ask you first and include the replacement in the price.
