Big trees. Small footprint.

Dead limbs over the garage, an ash that's not coming back, a stump in the middle of the lawn. We trim, remove and grind across the St. Croix Valley with ropes, a lift and a lot of plywood so your lawn looks the same when we leave.

After a storm

Tree on the house? Call first.

If a tree or big limb is on your house, garage or car, stay clear of it and call us. If it touches a power line, call the utility first; we can't work near energized lines until they've made it safe.

We prioritize trees on structures, then blocked driveways, then everything else, and we take photos for your insurance claim.

About us

Hi, I'm Erik.

I've been climbing trees for a living since 2009 and started Ninebark in 2018. The name comes from a tough native shrub that does well in our valley.

We're a crew of four with a bucket truck, a chipper and a stump grinder. We'd rather prune a tree that can be saved than take it down, and we'll tell you which is which.

Winter is our pruning season, when the trees are dormant and the ground is frozen hard enough to keep our equipment off your lawn.

FAQ

Tree questions, answered

Do you handle storm emergencies?

Yes. After storms we prioritize trees on houses and blocked driveways. Call rather than using the form; we answer the phone during storm cleanups.

Do you grind the stump and haul everything?

If you want. Stump grinding is a separate line on your estimate, and we chip brush and haul logs unless you'd like to keep the firewood.

Do I need a permit to remove a tree?

On most private residential lots around here you don't, but some cities have rules for boulevard trees or shoreland and bluff areas. We'll check for your address before we start.

How do you price a removal?

By the tree's size, how close it is to the house, fences or lines, and how much rigging and cleanup it needs. A big tree in an open yard can cost less than a small one over a garage.

Does my tree need to come down?

Not always. Many trees just need deadwood removed or some weight taken off. We'll look at it with you and tell you honestly.

When is the best time to prune?

Late winter for most trees, while they're dormant. Oaks should only be pruned in winter here to avoid spreading oak wilt.
